Pittsburgh, PA. has been voted the best place to live in America many times. It is filled with amazing clubs, bars, restaurants, and many other things to do. But where is the wildlife? It is a big city far from any exotic jungle or vast ocean. This is why Pittsburgh is home to Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. It is one of the only six major zoo and aquarium combos in all of the United States.
Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium has so much to offer its customers. It is a huge complex with many different themes for different kinds of animals and areas. Kid’s Kingdom is a section dedicated to children. It is an interactive area with petting zoos filled with many domesticated animals, playgrounds, a reptile house, and many exhibits about Pennsylvania’s own wildlife like the white-tailed deer. After seeing Kid’s Kingdom and seeing some of PA’s wildlife, you will like to see the Bears section. It houses PA’s own North American Black Bear and even the grizzly bear, Kodiak bear, and more. For those looking for a unique section, the Asian Forest is home to many different animals from Eastern Asia. Exhibits hold endangered animals like the snow leopard and the Komodo dragon and other kinds of Asian animals.
If you can’t get enough exotic animals after the Asian Forest, stop at the Tropical Forest and see the huge collection of monkeys, gorillas, lemurs, sloths, and amphibians indigenous to the area. Once you have seen the forests, take a look at the African Savannah. This section is home to Africa’s one of a kind animals. Lions, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and even more can be found in this section. It is even modeled to make it look as if you were walking along an African river. It is one of the most beautiful sections that Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium has to offer.
The best part about this place is that it isn’t just a zoo. The aquarium is an excellent part of this trip. The section called Water’s Edge is modeled to look like a fishing village. This eases you into the water with animals that live on water and land like the polar bear, sea otter, and sand sharks. Then the PPG Aquarium is the best place to see all kinds of exotic fish like eels, sharks, stingrays, trout, catfish, and more! There are so many exhibits to be seen filled with colorful and amazing fish.
